Imagine a scrawny 10-year-old me, sprawled on the living room floor, mesmerized by his granddad’s dusty chess set. What began as a bored summer day turned into a full-blown love affair with those 64 magical squares. I’d sneak in games on a creaky library computer, memorizing openings instead of doing homework.
